Finding tutors

Sino Tutor connects you with vetted tutors across South Africa, from Grade 1 all the way to varsity. This guide walks you through searching the directory, narrowing the results to the people who actually fit your needs, and deciding who to book.

Searching the directory

Open the Tutors page to browse everyone who has been approved to teach on the platform. Rather than scrolling through every profile, use the filters along the top to focus on what matters to you: the subject you need help with, the grade or level you are studying, the province you are in, the hourly rate you can afford, whether you want lessons online or in person, and the minimum rating you are comfortable with.

The filters work together, so you can be as broad or as specific as you like. Searching for Grade 11 Mathematics tutors in Gauteng who teach online and charge under a certain rate will return a tight, relevant shortlist instead of an overwhelming wall of profiles. If you get too few results, loosen one filter at a time until the list opens back up.

Tutors on the Plus and Pro plans receive priority placement in the results, so strong, committed tutors tend to surface near the top. Placement is only one signal, though, and it is always worth reading further down the list to find the person who is the best match for you.

Comparing tutors

Every tutor profile is designed to give you a clear picture before you commit to anything. You can see the subjects and grades they cover, their qualifications, a short biography in their own words, their hourly rate in rand, the province they are based in, whether they teach online or in person, and their weekly availability. Crucially, you can also read genuine reviews and star ratings left by students who have actually had sessions with them.

Take your time weighing these up against each other. A slightly higher rate can be worth it for a tutor whose reviews mention patience and clear explanations, while a newer tutor without many reviews may be a great fit if their subject coverage and availability line up perfectly with yours.

What to do next

Once you have found someone who feels like the right fit, open their profile and request a session straight from their booking calendar. The next guide, on bookings, explains exactly how that works and what happens after you send a request.
